Lives and works in Hong Kong

Chow Chun Fai is best known for selecting quotations of scenes from popular cinema, in forms of painting, video and photographic installations. His “moving paintings” take scenes and lines from well-known movies and translate them into pieces of art with a distinctly “Hong Kong” perspective. Chow also introduces his own photo-portraits and splintering perspectives that bring to mind the black humor and witty wisecracks of Hong Kong cinema. The exchange of dialogue among actors is broken into fragments that represent the thematic and auditory essence of the scene. These highly ironic phrases, always endowed with subtle and conceptual twists, constitute a key to reading the images that they accompany.
